About The Hey J’s:

From
left to right Johnnie Jones, Jerry Peterson, Jim McMillin
Johnnie
Jones: I started playing the
six-stringed acoustic guitar at a young age when I got my Sears Silvertone
guitar. My roots at that time were in country music, later learning to
love the Beach Boys, the Eagles, and other popular rock music groups of
the 1960s and 1970s. In later years I learned to love folk and bluegrass
music. I also play an acoustic 12-string guitar, and sing solos and the
high harmony. At present I work in Library Science and in the past have
hosted radio broadcasts on Fenton’s WCXI, 1160 AM on the dial, which has a
classic country format. I am a life-long resident of Flint, Michigan.
Jerry
Peterson: I started playing
the six-stringed acoustic guitar while in high school listening to Ricky
Nelson and Elvis Presley on Top 40 Radio. During that time I became a fan
of the acoustic pop-folk music of the Kingston Trio, eventually buying
every one of their albums. I also enjoyed listening to all types of
popular music heard on Top 40 Radio. I performed acoustic folk music
while in college with a partner, whom also played the guitar. I have
played the guitar, and the stringed bass, and sung in several other
acoustic music groups in recent years. I sing the melody line of our
songs. I am a retired educator and live in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
Jim
McMillin: I started playing
the guitar at the ripe old age of six. My first musical love was the
gospel music I played in my church, where I have played for many years up
to the present. I prefer playing the classical guitar. While I have
every guitar imaginable, I mostly enjoy the soft melodious, classical
sound that comes from playing on nylon strings. My musical tastes
include: country, pop, jazz, blues, folk, gospel and contemporary
Christian music. I play the lead guitar in our songs. I have lived most
of my life in the Flint area, and am still a resident of Flint. I
recently retired from Delphi Automotive, and look forward to doing what I
love the most….playing the guitar.
